This week I am so excited to discuss how much a space can transform with Three key essentials:

Wallpaper
DIY’s/Shopping your home
Rearranging your layout

This Master Retreat Project included simple changes, one weekend of paint, wallpapering, lighting, furniture placement and installation. The best part of this revamp is the only new items purchased for this space were the lighting, wallpaper and hardware for the barn door!

Shopping your home is absolutely a go to first line of Decorating and Design. A true Designer will meet with you during hour one to take inventory of your homes existing furnishings combined with the Style you’re looking to achieve and make great use of what is already in your home. This ensures the maximum amount of your budget can be geared towards items that make big impacts (Like accent walls, area rugs etc.) as well as items that will help the dynamics and dramatics of your space like lighting.

Let’s take a closer look at what was done in this space…

// PRODUCTS, LINKS & DISCOUNTS //

In this space we added a BARN DOOR to encase the Master Bath which add’s a Decorative accent to an otherwise large opening and wall.

The Barn Door was made of Standard Shiplap Boards encased with 1x4 Pine Board Frames and Painted in Fusion Mineral : Lamp White, that can be purchased here.

The BARN DOOR HARDWARE can be purchased here for under $60.

Keeping the colors light and bright and airy helps to make a statement without making the space feel closed in or dark.

In this portion of the room we wanted to create a cozy corner for reading and relaxing outside of bed. Complete with an oversized SLIP COVER SOFA, found here, oversized artwork already in the home to fill up the wall space and balance the barn door and wall size, framed up top by the perfect OVERHEAD SCONCE LIGHTING, found here.

In addition to the sconce lighting we added an inexpensive CRYSTAL CHANDELIER to the center of the room which can be found here for under $100.

In general “Nooks” within a Bedroom space tend to be used for TV, Electronics and Built in’s…In this space we opted to recess the Cal King bed into the 8 foot wide nook space which gave an additional 3 feet of space within the room as well as a view out of the bedrooms windows at sunset.

We anchored the existing Dresser on the wall next to the bed to serve as both a nightstand space and storage for the room. In keeping with the Traditional and Romantic appeal of the room we added a Framed antique movie poster above the Dresser.

The largest change within this space was WALLPAPERING the main feature wall. This wall is seen at all angles of the room including being the main focal point of the room as well as seen from the hallway outside of the bedroom. A simple accent wall of wallpaper sets the entire mood & tone for the room, in addition to giving the room its sophistication and elegance combined with the crystal chandelier.

The wallpaper we used in this space is from our Design Line with our hands down, go-to always, wallpaper brand Wall Blush. This self adhesive wallpaper allows for a flawless look each time, 100’s of designs to choose from, waterproof and durable without any mess during installation and removal will never damage your walls.

The Final Showstopper for this space was an oversized FIREPLACE. Adding a Fireplace where there isn’t one can be extremely expensive! But thankfully due to sites like Offerup and FB Marketplace there is almost always an electric fireplace being sold for next to nothing. A little sanding and Paint…its as great as new and completes the look, feel and style of this space…not to mention it will keep the chilly winters so much warmer!

The Goal for this space: Romantic, Modern, Master Retreat that feels “traditional” in elegance while maintaining a minimal budget, adding in warmth, light tones, textures and a fireplace.

Minimal Budget: Keep the bones! Use existing furnishings and keep walls and trim in tact if they will fit the tone of what you’re looking to do. Re-arrange the layout for a fresh new space.
