A Modern Farmhouse Dining Space

Last week we covered how to use lines within a space to create harmony and balance. The three types of lines within Design of any space are :

Vertical
Horizontal
Curved

This week I am so excited to showcase how we took a dark and moody Dining Space and transformed it into a stunning Modern Farmhouse Dining room. While the before of this space was equally as stunning, it fell a bit flat as the black accent wall left the room feeling like it only had one vibe, Dark and Moody. In an open concept living space such as this room, it’s essential to create Harmony among the rooms and ensure the space can transition and compliment from season to season without feeling like its competing with the adjacent spaces.

This Dining Space transformation included wallpapering, lighting, furniture placement using existing items within the home and installation. It was less than a 2 day project and the best part of this revamp is despite the DRAMATIC difference, the only new item purchased for this space was wallpaper !

Let’s take a closer look at what was done in this space…

// PRODUCTS, LINKS & DISCOUNTS //

In this Space we began by removing the Heavy Drapery on our new accent wall. In doing so it allowed ample natural light into the space which immediately helped it to feel twice as large and inviting.

By Removing the Drapery from just this wall, it paved the path to adding two additional pieces of storage to the room, one of which an antique wood buffet with marble top. By adding this piece to the space, the home owner has additional space and countertop to utilize when serving or entertaining.

In addition to the piece mentioned above we were able to “Shop the home” and find a second natural wood piece to balance the wood buffet and place on the opposite side of the room. This smaller sized hutch is perfect for this adjacent wall as it now hosts all of the extra’s for a formal dining space. From formal serving ware, table cloths, table runners, glassware etc.

Adding a Gold Sconce wall light, found here, helps to travel the eye in a balanced way along the wall while creating that Pop of Modern and Elegance.

The Neutral area rug is the same that was originally in this space and is absolutely a must when looking for a rug that has enough pattern for a dining room and the small spills it may take while maintaining the light and bright appeal. This stunner can be found here, and is an 8x10 in this space.

The true Farmhouse and Traditional are complimented by the owners original Antique Table and Hutch furnishings. They are painted in Fusion Mineral paint in color: Lamp White and can be purchased here.

The blend of driftwood style candle holders and chairs at back of the table pull the wood elements through the room and further create the “farmhouse” appeal. The End chairs are a perfect staple that add warmth and texture, with a slip cover look that most Farmhouse styles boast. These End Chairs can be found here as a set of 2.

The Brass candle holders on the tables center give way to the additional modern touches and can be found here for a great price of 3 for under $20!

Now for the Rooms most pivotal change and the true Show Stopper of it all! The Wallpaper! While opening the space up on our Feature wall by removing the Heavy drapery, it was essential to keep the room feeling cozy and warm, which meant lining the exterior wall of Sliding doors with our Favorite line of drapes by Half Priced Drape Company. Framing any wall of doors in with Heavy Drapery will always help to keep the space feeling formal and elegant.

We used 4 panels in the color: Oatmeal, in the length 50x120 and they can be found here. These drapes are a gorgeous linen and are blackout which makes them a great purchase to use in any space throughout the years.

The rod we used in this space pulled the last piece of Gold we needed to balance both sides of the room and can by found here for a phenomenal price! The size of this rod is the 72 to 144 inch rod. This rod is so heavy duty and absolutely stunning.

In addition to this dining space we took the remaining few feet of the Wallpaper and carried it through the homes main entry hallway which leads to the Dining space. This was the perfect way to help the downstairs of this home feel like one room flowed into the next as well as set the Style of the home, right from the get go. It is simple, stated, beautiful and clean.

The Goal for this space: To Lighten and Brighten! To transform the space into a Modern meets Traditional Farmhouse appeal that can carry a year round elegance that will also pair as a neutral base for seasonal and holiday Decorating.

How to invite a “Traditional elegance” atmosphere: Wallpaper, Area Rug, Antique furnishings

Minimal Budget: Keep the bones! Use existing furnishings, Drapery and keep walls and trim in tact if they will fit the tone of what you’re looking to do. Re-arrange the layout for a fresh new space.
